Why a stone radio.?

Hunter and his family live in the Blue Mountains, just west of Sydney in Australia. The mountains are made of stone… it’s everywhere.

Hunter was bored, bored, bored and decided to carve some stone with the children. After a couple of hours of chipping, sanding and sawing, a remarkable thing happened… The shape of what was to become the original stone radio appeared through the dust.

Swatting the light globe from above his head, Hunter called one of the worlds leading hi-fi retailers for an opinion on his epiphany.

Len Wallis of Len Wallis audio has won many international hi-fi retailer awards, including ‘Worlds best hi-fi retailer’ and was quick to see the potential for beautiful, hi-tech, modern mantle radios of the highest quality.

His only problem was that the projected selling price of the hand carved rock radios would be some many thousand dollars… EACH!

Len said he would buy one, but only one… for himself! He also said to Hunter that if the price-point were to be under a thousand dollars, then he would find it many homes.

Hunter Gibb snapshot.

Hunter Gibb began designing and constructing audio in his mid teens. He was building astounding concrete loudspeakers by 21, baffling the industry experts with their deep, rich base from basic components.

At that time Hunter became a television director, producer, cameraman and writer. In the following decades Hunter produced programme series’ as well as producing NEWS, documentaries and thousands of commercials, etc.

He earned his living for almost ten years as an actor on film, television and stage and continues to do voice-overs today. All the while, managing to make the most basic of mistakes on an ongoing, daily basis. His mother and children adore him. His children’s mother is still not sure.
